Despite or maybe because of its location next to I-5 and underneath the now defunct Olympia Brewing Company, Tumwater Falls along the Deschutes River is like a breath of fresh air within its concrete jungle surroundings. It’s not hard to see why this area on the outskirts of the state capitol has been a popular place for people to congregate for thousands of years; indeed the estuary by Lower Falls was the site of one of the largest Native American settlements in the region long before the pioneer days and white settlement.
